Melanie Gerard

DVM
Dr. Melanie Gerard has a long history of working to promote animal welfare through providing high quality veterinary care in a variety of settings. Dr. Gerard graduated from veterinary college with honors in 2001. She worked in private practice and as an instructor at her alma mater, Ohio State University, in the Shelter Medicine Program. This experience led her to become the senior veterinarian in a large humane society in Minneapolis, MN. During her years working with shelter animals, she realized that too many pets were surrendered due to the owner’s inability to afford care. In 2012, Dr. Gerard started Mission Animal Hospital in Minneapolis. Mission Animal Hospital continues to provide thousands of animals with medical care today and is currently the only charitable non-profit veterinary hospital in Minnesota. Dr. Gerard moved to the Pacific Northwest in 2015 and blended families with her husband, Dr. Don Gerard. Together, they plan to further the vision of providing high quality care at affordable prices and to find innovative ways to provide veterinary services. Dr. Gerard spends the majority of her time off with her three children, two step-children and two crazy herding dogs. She enjoys running, hiking, a little tennis, cooking and dreams of flipping a house one day. Don and Melanie both have enjoyed spending time in Mexico helping the spay/neuter effort to decrease the numbers of animals living in the streets of a small fishing village. Both hope to continue this type of work in the future.

Carol Earls

Dr. Carol Earls received her degree from Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. Through the years, she has had the opportunity to acquire various skills and techniques that have added to her repertoire. These skills include internal veterinary medicine practices, dental techniques, and traditional Chinese medicine treatments including acupuncture, etc.

Dr. Earls is a lover of the outdoors and moved to the Seattle area after graduating from Veterinary School. She has been living and practicing Medicine in Edmonds ever since. Tracy Tomlinson

DVM
Dr. Tomlinson is our newest doctor. She graduated from Washington State University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998. In fact, one of our owners, Dr. Don Gerard, was her vet school classmate! She has known Dr. Melanie Gerard for several years as well.

Dr. Tomlinson grew up in Kent, where her family had a small hobby farm. She raised and cared for goats, chickens, rabbits, a horse, and, of course, cats and dogs. She went to WSU for undergraduate studies as well as vet school. In her spare time, she loves painting, going to the gym, cooking, and spending time with her pets. She has two Golden Retrievers and six Sphynx cats. They are all very important parts of her family.
Medically, she enjoys managing endocrine diseases (hormonal conditions like diabetes, Cushing's disease, thyroid disease, etc.), weird feline medical cases (cats are not small dogs!), and managing preventive/wellness care for all life stages. She is a strong believer in using screening diagnostics for early disease detection rather than waiting for the pet to be suffering from a disease before treatment is initiated. She also believes strongly in regular dental cleanings before dental disease has progressed to where multiple teeth must be extracted. The foundation of Dr. Tomlinson's approach in practice is to understand the wants and needs of her clients as well as determining the needs of her patients. She feels that having a detailed conversation with the client and clear communication in both directions is of vital importance for her to provide the best care for your pets.

Sheyenne grew up in the Tacoma area and moved up north about 6 years ago when she made a career change from being an esthetician into veterinary medicine. She has found great joy in working with all types of animals from horses to research dogs and hopes to one day adopt a retired research beagle after her girl, Melon, was never able to come home. She has an 11-year-old son, Liam, and a 14-year-old cat, Mooch, at home who keep her on her toes. She’s looking to add a guinea pig to our little family as well. She is excited to be at Brier with such great people that will allow her to continue to grow both personally and professionally.
